As Neonatal Intensive Care Awareness (NICA) month comes to a close, those of us at Brave Beginnings would like to thank all of you who have shown your support for families spending time in the neonatal intensive care unit, along with the health professionals who care for them.

The month opened with our latest Public Service Announcement highlighting one of history’s most famous preemies, Sir Isaac Newton. September continued with a strong showing of support from our celebrity ambassadors and friends who took to social media to urge their followers to help spread awareness of this special month.

Actress Zoe Saldana, Brave Beginnings’ 2015 Theatrical Fundraising Spokesperson, and herself the mother of twins Cy Aridio and Bowie Ezio who were born prematurely, urged her Facebook and Twitter followers to get involved. “September is #NICUawareness month and Brave Beginnings is working to meet the needs of every hospital and care center with critical airway carts, infant resuscitators, incubators and omnibeds: www.bravebeginnings.org. Let’s make sure all preemies can survive and thrive,” posted Zoe.

Kim Kardashian West, whose daughter, North, was born six weeks early, posted on Twitter that she loves the important work that Brave Beginnings does to help preemies. On the “Kim’s Kauses” page of her website, she wrote: “Over the past 10 years, Brave Beginnings (a program developed by the Will Rogers Institute) has given millions in grants to hospitals nationwide to implement new life-saving technology that can enhance the quality of preemies’ lives…I’m asking you guys to help by participating in social media support this month. Your actions can help raise the necessary funds hospitals need to improve the lives and futures of so many preemies!” Click here to read the rest of Kim’s Post.

This year’s Theatrical Fundraising Spokesperson, Liam Hemsworth, wrapped up NICU Awareness month with posts on his official Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. “NICUs have saved more than 73,000 babies with the help of Brave Beginnings,” wrote Liam; his Facebook post received more than 2,000 likes within the first hour.

Thanks again to everyone who helped spread the word about NICU awareness this month; let’s keep the momentum going year-round, and work together to make sure preemies have access to the medical equipment they need to grow up to live healthy and productive lives.
